After winning the national championship he went international to race in the VW Scirocco Cup in Germany in 2011 where he faired well as a rookie and the following year he moved on to race in the British GT4 on a Lotus Evora, taking frequent victories and could have fought for the championship, only to be denied with a visa rejection to race in UK.

Sailesh went on to race in the Euro Racecar Championship in 2013 and then chose to move into business and also movies. He was totally occupied with business and recently he applied for the upcoming VW Vento Cup 2015.

He is all excited to return to racing in India with the new series in June and also back again with Volkswagen India.

How are you feeling after your decision to race in India after 4years?
– I was actually quite busy with different projects for the last two years that I couldnt actually make time for Racing. I wanted to race in the US but travelling to and fro from India would take up a lot of time and I dont have that much time to spare at the moment. Couldnt let go of racing and so finally decided to race in India, where in i can fly in out on that particular weekend so that my work isnt affected!! I havent raced at BIC till date so thats something Im looking forward to.

What were you doing in the last couple of years away from racing?
– Lots of things actually. Logistics business, Movies and now opening up a world class 24hr gym in my home town – Vizag.

How is it being back with Volkswagen?

– VW is where it all started. So there is always that special feeling towards the team!!

How did you get this drive for the 2015 Vento Cup?
– I was invited for the Vento Cup launch at Pune, but unforunately I couldnt make it as I was out of country. But then I had an idea that may be I could drive in the new series, so msged Sirish and Im in!!

Hopeful of fighting for the championship right away?
– Championship is always the target!! But the last time I actually raced was in Nov 2013 and the last time at Kari Speedway was way back in Polocup 2010 and I havent driven at the BIC at all.. So lets see how it goes!!

What will be the main difference between the Polo and the Vento?
– I dont think there will be a big difference except for extra Hp, automatic gears and the boot! Shouldnt make a big difference for me and we do know that all VW cars handle good!

Will the series be better than polocup in terms of action and crowd pulling?
– I think VW has been good at marketing and hence the crowd pulling.. They have been promoting motorsports in India which is fantastic for the sport!! But we still lack on sponsorships and govt recognition!

What we need for us Indians to be racing abroad in a good series?

– "Sponsorship" or a "Rich Dad"
