Pedrosa strikes at the last minute to deny Lorenzo pole by breaking pole record in Mugello
Spaniard Dani Pedrosa sprung at the final moment to deny pole to compatriot Lorenzo by setting a new pole record at Mugello. Reigning World Champion broke the lap record a few minutes earlier in the Q2 but Pedrosa came out of nowhere to take pole much to the shock of Lorenzo.
Italian Andrea Dovizioso took home front row for self and Ducati team with a frantic last minute slipstream plunge. Crutchlow crashed in the session with 8mins to go and managed an amazing 4th on the grid on the second bike again in last minute. Bradl qualified ahead of strugling Marquez who got promoted to Q2 after topping Q1 as he failed to set a top10 time in the first three practice sessions due to crashes in each session.
National favorite Valentino Rossi yet again failed to master the new sprint style qualifying format and dropped to 7th at the final moments after setting front row time earlier in the session. Nicky Hayden slipstreamed Rossi to set a 8th fastest and so did Marquez who slipstreamed Rossi and managed to get further quicker.
