Jagan Kumar, first Indian National to win in ARRC

Chennai lad Jagan Kumar set double record at Round 2 of the FIM Asia Road Racing Championship in Sentul, Indonesia on June 6, 2015.

Racing in the Suzuki Asian Challenge, Suzuki’s rider development platform, Jagan Kumar entered in the ARRC history book as the first Indian to start the race from pole position and win a race in the ARRC.

27–year–old Jagan, who is a four time national champion , took his rivals by surprise when he stole the pole position with a time of 2’01.903s.

A few hours later, Jagan proudly lined his bike on the first grid. Looking cool, calm and collected, Jagan then proceeded to showcase his true colours as he confidently led the 13–bike grid into the first turn.

Having tough challenge from Thai rider Patis Chooprathet, as well as Malaysians Nazirul Izzat Md Baharuddin and Muhammad Zulhilmi Yazid, Jagan was ron the limit as he fought to stay in position lap after lap.

The nail–biting action continued for the entire eight laps before Jagan charged to the finish line with a time of 16’34.430s, narrowly beating out Patis by 0.161s.

The Thai rider was forced to settle for second place with 16’34.591s while Malaysian Muhammad Zulhilmi Yazid celebrated in third place with 16’34.703s.

Jagan Kumar said “This is my first international win and I am so happy to be able to gift this victory to all two wheeler fans in India. Let’s hope that this will be the beginning of more victories to come,”
