Michael Schumacher in critical coma due to head injury in skiing accident
7 times F1 World Champion Michael Schumacher suffered a severe head injury in a fall while skiing in the nearby ski town of Meribel on Sunday and is in a critical condition with an induced coma at a hospital in Grenoble, France.
Schumacher, who retired from Formula 1 at the end of 2012, was on a holiday with his family at this upmarket ski resort in France where the accident took place.
Its said the F1 Champion fell and hit his head hard on a rock while wearing helmet and incurred diffused brain injury and was uplifted to the nearby hospital within 15mins of the accident.
The injured Michael was initially conscious but a bit agitated and shocked while the medical team discovered serious injuries which had to be operated immediately.
Michael injured his right side of the skull heavily and incurred billateral lesions on his brain, which means the brain is damaged in both the hemispheres.
After couple of operations on Sunday night Schumacher is kept on an induced coma to relax the brain while the doctor´s have also lowered the body temperature to reduce the brain swelling.
Doctors have said that Michael´s prognosis remains unclear with him fighting for his life as the injuries are extremely serious and they are working hour by hour.
Michael turns 45 on January 3rd.
