Ferrari driver Felipe Massa annouced his relieving from the team at the end of this season through his twitter last night. After joining the Scuderia outfit in 2006 alongside Michael Schumacher, Massa went on to win 11 races, 36 podiums over the period of 7years while losing the 2008 World Championship by just 1 point to Hamilton.
Massa survived a near fatal head injury in 2009 during the practice of the Hungarian Grand Prix and had to recover thoutgh the rest of the season.
With enormous support from the House of Ferrari Massa returned to F1 in 2010 partnering new team mate Fernando Alonso who was replacing Kimi Raikkonen. Massa couldnt deliver to the expectation in the following years and was always questioned about the exit from the team.
Scoring just 3podiums since 2011, Felipe had lot to prove for being worthy of his Ferrari seat this season but the Brazilian driver couldnt match his team mate and Ferrari started to look out for a replacement. Many drivers were in the hunt including triple world champion Sebastian Vettel but situation was most favorable for bringing back Kimi Raikkonen back into the squad which meant Massa had to find a seat elsewhere for 2104.
Massa tweeted : "From 2014 i will no longer be driving for Ferrari. I would like to thank the team for all the victories and incredible moments experienced together. Thank you also to my wife and all of my family, to my fans and all my Sponsors. From each one of you I have always received a great support! Right now I want to push as hard as possible with Ferrari for the remaining 7 races."
Massa also expressed that the current car was not competitive and he was not given the chance by the team to fight for the championship but only to second team mate Alonso.
"For next year, I want to find a team that can give me a competitive car to win many more races and challenge for the Championship which remains my greatest objective! Thank you all. Felipe"
