World Champion Lorenzo seals victory in Mugello for the third year in a row

Reigning MotoGP champion Jorge Lorenzo of Yamaha grabbed his second victory of the year and consective third victory in Mugello. Lorenzo´s victory comes after dismal 7th in LeMans and also losing pole to Pedrosa at the last moment on Saturday. Lorenzo said "It’s very special; I won the last three years here so this track is magic for me and very positive for Yamaha"

At the start it was Marquez who rocketed from 6th on the grid to lead into Turn1 but a bit deep into the corner saw Lorenzo grab the oppurtunity and made a forcing move to grab the lead to control the race till the flag.

A few corners of the start, the circuit favorite Valentino Rossi who lost couple of positions due a slipped clutch at the start was forcing his way up but unfortunately got clipped by Alvaro Bautista on Turn 3 and both crashing out of the race with Rossi hitting the airfence violently thus ending a hopeful home race for Rossi. Both riders walked away without serious injuries but an investigation was called for the incident which was then closed as a racing incident after talking to both riders.

Meanwhile Lorenzo held the lead with Pedrosa and Marquez closely following for almost half the race distance but series of pushing laps from Lorenzo saw him break away with the lead. Pedrosa was struglling to keep pace with Lorenzo and look uncomfortable on the bike which gave Marquez to sneak past his team mate. Marquez opened a gap to Pedrosa and looked like he was hunting the leader Lorenzo but with 3laps to go, the bike let go losing the front at Casanova corner. Marquez got up unhurt but was terribly upset and angry with himself for the incident.

Lorenzo crossed the line comfortable 5.4secs ahead of Pedrosa and Crutchlow seized a back to back podium with third. Bradl came in fourth with the Ducati trio of Dovizioso, Hayden and Pirro in fifth, sixth and seventh for the home team.

Espargaro on the CRT came 8th ahead of injured Bradley Smith in a Satellite Yamaha followed by Barbera on another CRT to finish the top 10.

The championship fight is widely open with Lorenzo back in second and reducing the gap to Pedrosa on the table with Marquez experiecing a DNF. Rossi´s championship dreams are literally shattered with this DNF and the Doctor should work to enjoy the other races bringing back his form.
