Buddh International Circuit is getting ready to host India´s first World Superbike championship race in March 2013
Alas the 2012 racing season has ended but Buddh International Circuit has started work again and is preparing for the first ever World Superbike Championship event in India. The prestigious Buddh Circuit, India´s first purpose built F1 track has already hosted two successful Formula 1 events in the past 2years and a recently held National Festival of Speed along will several other events for car and bike manufacturers.
Now its time for super fast bikes to blaze at the Noida circuit and we have none other than the world superbike championship coming. Superbikes, is only second to MotoGP in popularity and known for great on track action. Unlike the prototype MotoGP bikes, these Superbikes are basically supertuned versions of the road bikes which are less complicated and gives more closer battle on the track with exciting action.
WSBK is regulated by FIM and jointly promoted by Dorna Sports & Infront Motor Sports and has manufacturers like Suzuki, Honda, Kawasaki, Aprilia, Ducati and BMW competing for the title. The championship was founded in 1988 and acted as a feeder series to MotoGP with riders like Ben Spies and Cal Crutchlow or even a final resort to retired MotoGP riders like Max Biaggi or Carlos Checa.
A World Superbike has two races at every round and the results of each race are combined to determine the two annual World Championships, one for the riders and one for the manufacturers.
Moreover, the championship has already got its biggest Indian fan in form of Indian Cricket team captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who has come up with his own team and named it as Mahi Racing team India. Mahi Racing – the lone Indian Team – will compete in the World Super Sport category, which is the popular support race for WSBK and is held at every circuit where the Championship visits. Dhoni’s team entered the 2012 Super Sport category of WSBK Championship with a two rider team featuring Dan Linfoot and Florian Marino and gave an impressive performance with its rider Linfoot giving a podium finish in the debut season itself. In 2013, Mahi Racing has signed Kenan Sofouglu, (3 times WSS Champion) and Fabien Foret, an extremely successful rider and former World Supersport champion.
World Superbike Championship will be for the first time held in India at the Buddh International Circuit on 9–10 March 2013. Jaypee Sports International Limited, the organizers of F1 and WSBK in India, has signed a four year contract with Infront Sports to host the coveted racing in India.
