A. Sandeep Kumar to represent India at 2013 Scirocco R–Cup

 – Hanoosh Surapaneni crowned the Volkswagen Polo R Cup Junior Champion 2012

Greater Noida, December 3, 2012 – Volkswagen Polo R Cup 2012 comes to an end with the finale being hosted at Buddh International Circuit. The end of the season marks the beginning of a new challenge for A. Sandeep Kumar who emerged as the winner of the Pro Category of Polo R Cup 2012 Championship as he gets a chance to represent the country in Scirocco R–Cup 2013 in Germany. In a ceremony post the last race of the season, Dr. John Chacko, Volkswagen Group Chief Representative India, President and Managing Director, Volkswagen Indian Pvt. Ltd., announced Sandeep as the recipient of the seat reserved for Polo R Cup India driver at Volkswagen Scirocco R–Cup Germany next year. Junior–category winner, Hanoosh Surapaneni, has been offered a sponsored seat in the 2014 season of Polo R Cup India.

The battle for the Pro Category Championship was open and extremely close all the way till the last round of the season with Sandeep leading the pack of drivers with a fine margin over Raahil Noorani and Avdumber Hede. In the two races of the round 6, Sandeep emerged as the better driver amongst the competitors and claimed the crucial points to retain his top spot in the championship.

Dr. John Chacko said “This year, based on the overall performance of the driver, we have decided to send Sandeep to Sirocco R–Cup as the entry from India. Sandeep was very consistent throughout the season and this championship is very well deserved. We will also provide him a professional driver coach and a team manager so that he can concentrate fully on his driving."

“I am ecstatic to have got the opportunity of representing India at Volkswagen Scirocco R–Cup. It’s my first year as a Polo R Cup driver and I was confident that I had a shot at winning the championship as the season progressed. Competition was tough, there were a lot of seasoned drivers, so it feels great to beat them and emerge as a winner. I believe I have put in a lot of hard work and built my points race on race. To represent India in the race crazy continent of Europe will be very challenging and I am looking forward to this crucial step in my race career”, said A. Sandeep Kumar.

The Junior Category winner, Hanoosh, will be awarded with a sponsored seat at 2013 season of Polo R Cup in India. On winning the sponsorship, Hanoosh said, “It feels great to end the season on such a great note. My plan was to get the basics of racing right, get comfortable with the car and perform consistently. I am glad that my efforts have paid off extremely well. I would like to thank Volkswagen Motorsport for giving me this opportunity and the support provided by the technicians and coaches throughout the season.”
