Hamilton grabs dominant pole in Abu Dhabi while Vettel gets penalized
McLaren´s Lewis Hamilton grabbed a dominant pole for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix while championship leader Sebastien Vettel clocked 3rd fastest but couldnt make it to the pits with enough fuel on the car and was thus penalized and disqualified by the FIA.
Lewis Hamilton showed form and pace right from Practice 1 and became the hot favorite for pole right from Q1 in Qualifying. Red Bull´s Sebastien Vettel´s dominant run came to an end when his car was diagnosed with brake issue on Practice 3 and a mysterious Fuel Cell problem in Qualifying which eventually stopped the reigning champion from entering the pits with enough fuel (1litre) for sampling and thus disqualifying from Qualifying P3.
Red Bull´s Mark Webber will start in front row alongside Hamilton and Williams driver will be promoted to P3 as he pulled out an amazing time to qualify with the 4th fastest time. Lotus driver Kimi Rakikon set the 5th fastest time and Jenson Button (McLaren) admitted he couldn´t deliver the right pace as his team mate Hamilton.
Championship contented Fernando Alonso of Ferrari didnt well have a good qualifying and managed to pull out only the 7th fastest time but Vettel´s Pit Lane start penalty will help Alonso to make up some ground on lost point.
Nico Rosberg (Mercedes) clocked 8th fastest while team mate Schumacher could manage only 14th. Fillipe Massa on the second Ferrari clocked 9th and Romain Grosjean on the second Lotus. Force India´s Nico Hulkenberg and team mate Paul Di Resta managed 11th and 13th respectively. While Sergio Perez on Sauber clocked 12th and Bruno Senna managed 15th.
Narain Karthikeyan on the HRT who qualified 24th was almost 5secs down on pole sitter Lewis Hamilton.
