FMSCI's MMSC-SIDVIN National Two Wheeler Racing Championship kicks off this weekend

May 29, 2012: As India continues to stamp its mark in the International world of two wheeler racing, the new and improved National Two wheeler racing season too, is all set to kick off on 1st June, 2012. The first "Rolon Round" of the FMSCI's, MMSC-SIDVIN Indian National Motorcycle Racing Championship is scheduled to take place at the Kari Motor Speed Way in Coimbatore. The following four rounds of the five round National Championship will be conducted at Madras Motor Race Track on the outskirts of Chennai.
The organisers (Madras Motor Sports Club) have made some interesting changes and new additions to this year's national championship. 2012 sees the introduction of the 165CC Group C (limited modification) class for the Open category riders & also the start of the manufacturer's championship for all classes. As in MotoGP, the manufacturer of each competitor will accumulate points as per the finishing order of the bikes in each race. The highest points scoring manufacturer at the end of the season with then credit themselves with the National title in each racing class.

The championship itself is far more structured in 2012 with the 130CC & 165CC Group D (unmodified) classes conducted for the Novice riders, which serves as the ideal platform to recognise and groom young talent with these riders then moving up to subsequently take part in the 165CC Group C and Group B (Fully Modified) classes. The Group A (imported) Superbikes upto 600CC will also be in action at the KMS & MMRT tracks.

The One Make Championships will introduce the addition of the TVS-MMSC One Make Championship along with the Honda-MMSC & Yamaha-MMSC One Make Championships. Novice & Open category riders will take part on the all new TVS Apache RTR180 motorcycles specially prepared for the Championship by TVS Motor Company. TVS have in addition to this, guaranteed a spot in this year's Malaysian Underbone Championship for one of their riders, Jagan.

There are changes in the Yamaha-MMSC One Make Championship as well with Yamaha Motors India introducing the all new Yamaha YZF R15 Version 2 motorcycles for the novice & Open category riders. These motorcycles will add to the glamour on the grid as they will all come fitted with the Daytona Race kits to bring out the true racing spirit on our Indian circuits as well. Yamaha have also made a step to give more Indian riders International exposure and will have Dinesh Kumar and Shyam Shankar competing with the best of Asia in Japan this coming weekend.

The Honda-MMSC One Make Championship will mature this year with the introduction of the Team Championship in the Honda CBR250CC class. The Honda CBF Stunner & CBR150R will also be seen in action for riders in the open categories. Novice riders will also get their opportunity to take part in the CB Twister race which will run as a non championship class. Not to be left out, Honda too are ensuring they take Indian two wheeler racing to the next level and will give M. Gautam and Deepak Pappineni the chance to prove their mettle in the Honda Green Cup this year.

The President of the FMSCI, Vicky Chandhok, said: "We have had a record number of entries in 2012, with 220 entries already received thus far from all across India. We are sure to see packed grids in all the races with entries received from as many as 9 teams. More than 10 National Champions will be seen in action alongside the many new faces that want to climb their way to the top. I am certain that 2012 will see some great wheel to wheel racing on the track and we sure hope to see more of our riders making a mark on the International scene soon."

This year also introduces further incentives for all the riders with the winners receiving approximately Rs. 3,50,000/- as cash awards from each round and the Championship winners going home with Rs 7.75 lakh. A total of approx. Rs.25 Lakhs awarded to the riders through the season, makes this year's championship the biggest ever Two Wheeler Championship conducted in India.
