Stoner wins dramatic race pipping Spies on the line

The final race of the season started amid hard times recovering from the death of Marco Simoncelli in Malaysia hardly a fortnight ago.The entire paddock showed support and resilience but the atmosphere was little bit low key than it used to be in Valencia. The weather showed mixed conditions during the last two days of practice and the race was sure to be an unpredictable one.

The race day started with a great tribute to Marco Simoncelli led by Kevin Schwantz on Marco's bike. All the riders from MotoGP, Moto2 and 125cc joined the parade and a minute silence.

The race was declared wet with the track still dry due to the forecast and the race started with Stoner punching into the lead as usual followed by the other Repsol Hondas. On turn one with the leaders Stoner, Pedrosa, Spies just thru the unexpected happened with Dovizioso who was alongside Rossi braked hard going into turn 1, but Bautista who was on the verge of braking late was caught by surprise and had to hit the back wheel of Dovizioso and then falling down. Bautista's bike hit Rossi, who in turn hit De Puniet and then Hayden in a classical domino effect.

All riders got away unhurt but Rossi was totally upset as the crash looked horrible and dangerous involving 4 riders. Both Ducati's were out of the race also causing the 4th consecutive DNF for Rossi.

Meanwhile Stoner was flying and was six seconds ahead of Pedrosa on Lap 2. With the world championship already sealed, the fight for the remaining positions was furious with Dovizioso and Pedrosa fighting for the thrid place in the championship. The duo had fantastic battle all along with Ben Spies waiting for an opportunity to sneak in while Stoner was miles ahead.

As weather took its play Pedrosa dropped off and Spies on his Yamaha took ahead of Dovizioso's Honda. Suddenly Stoner who was 8secs ahead slowed down due to the down pour of rains and was in the sights of Spies and Dovizioso. Spies immediately took charge to close in and then Stoner made a mistake going wide and Spies got into the lead with just 3laps to go. Spies looked like to hang in there till the flag but a last minute dive by Stoner on the last corner took him closer to Spies and the power of the Honda rocketed over the Yamaha of Spies just to pip him on the line making a perfect photo finish. A grand finish to the season closer.
