MMSC : No 250cc for 2012

250cc Open class plan dropped. 165 Group D Open becomes Group C

After talks with the teams and manufacturers on September 2nd, Madras Motorsports Club, the organizers of the National Championship events in India finally called off the 250ccOpen class plans for the 2012 season.

The organizers planned introduce a 250cc Open class National Championship category to enable Indian riders to have an entry level exposure to the new Moto3 class (250cc 4stroke) which will replace the current 125cc 2 strokes in MotoGP and other European Championships from 2012

Due to the lack of 250cc production bikes in India except Honda who are also currently running the One Make Series CBR 250 races along with the National Championship events.
Amit Arora, Manager, MMSC Said "We are not introducing the 250cc Open Class for 2012 instead we are making the the Group D 165cc Open into a Group C."

Currently there are only 3 manufacturers involved in the national racing scene. TVS as a factory outfit supported the national championships for a very long time and used the racing tracks to develop their bikes like Shogun back in the early 90s and now the Apache.

Yamaha and Honda despite running their own One Make series respectively are not yet supporting any riders in the National Championships. The Yamaha R15 bikes running in the Group B and Group D categories are all non factory supported and privately funded and tuned bikes by the respective teams or riders.

Meanwhile Honda was keen to support the 250cc Open category but they had no competing manufacturer to go ahead as TVS and Yamaha doesn´t have 250cc bike yet in the Indian market.

Ramji, team boss, Ten–10 Racing said "We don´t have many manufacturers with a 250cc bike. TVS and Yamaha doesn´t have a 250cc bike and only Honda has one and again it would become an one make series which would not be ideal for a National Championship."

If few more manufacturers come into the market by 2012 with a 250cc machine produced in India then there will be some hope for this new category to be introduced in 2013. Let´s wait and see.
