Mahindra Racing grabs first ever GP win with Francesco Bagnaia

Francesco Bagnaia of ASPAR Mahindra Racing Team grabbed a fantastic last lap, last chicane victory at the Moto3 Dutch Grand Prix at Assen after starting 10th on the grid.

The first ever Sunday race of the historic Dutch TT (used to take place on Saturdays for the past 67 years) started with the Moto3 race and saw Mahindra making history again by grabbing their first ever Grand Prix victory since their Moto3 World Championships debut in 2011.

The race started with all the usual sparks fit for a Moto3 race with crashes, overtakes and excitement while Romano Fenati lead the race. No one would have expected Mahindra's Bagnaia fight for the lead as he started from 10th but the 19 year old Italian rider was fully confident and by the end of lap 1 he was running in 3rd after overtaking 5 riders.

The charged up Mahindra rider immediately attacked for the lead and moved to the front on lap 3. The race lead exchanged between the top 6 riders each and every lap but Bagnaia hung on with the lead group with the chance of rain looming ahead.

Francesco managed to hit the lead every now and then but the battle was fierce with all 6 rider fighting equally.

As the race was nearing the end, the excitement and action got even higher as it could be anyone´s race between the top 6 rider.

Bagnaia hit the front at important on the penultimate lap but it was frantic as usual with the unpredictable Moto3.

It was´nt until the last lap, last chicane, Bagnaia was on the extreme right at the exit of the chicane, managed to run over the red safety kerbs and eventually getting a slingshot to the line with a slipstream to take the chequered flag, giving himself and his team their first ever Grand Prix victory.

It was all tears for Mahindra Racing CEO - Mufaddal Choonia at the podium to see his rider and team take an all deserving victory in the Moto3 World Championship category after their entry into Grand Prix Racing in 2011.

After struggles, poles and podiums for the Mahindra Racing Team for the past 5 years and finally they made another history by taking a victory in the world level at the historic Dutch TT, also known as the Cathedral of motorcycling.
