Daniel Ricciardo claims Monaco pole beating both Mercedes driver
RedBull Racing driver Daniel Ricciardo of Australia grabbed pole position for the 2016 Monaco Grand Prix beating Mercedes drivers Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton.
Hamilton looked very strong in Q1 and Q2 but as Q3 began gremlins hit Hamilton with an engine problem as he was about to exit the pit lane. He was wheeled back to his box and came into the track just 4mins before the checkquered flag thus ruining his pole oppurtunity. However the British driver made couple of cautious laps before attempting his late flyer to grab 3rd spot on the grid behind his team mate Nico Rosberg who couldnt pose a challenge to the Redbull.
Sebastian Vettel starts 4th alongside Hamilton but was almost 0.9 seconds behind the pole man and was complaining that his car became worse in Q3 following a setup tweak.
Hulkenberg of Force India qualified 5th ahead of Raikkonen who will face a 5 place grid penalty for an unexpected gear box change.
Carlos Sainz on the Torro Rosso clocked 7th fastest ahead of Sergio Perez of Force India and Daniel Kyvat on the other Torro Rosso was just ahead of Fernando Alonso on the McLaren in 10th.
RedBull racing teams´s recent winner Max Verstappen ended his qualifying at the start of Q1 by hitting the barrier and breaking his suspension before crashing his car.
