Pune: The IndiKarting KartPrix kicked of its first event of 2016 with an encouraging entry list of 44 racers from around India.

The FMSCI sanctioned, IndiKarting KartPrix aims to promote grassroots racing in India while at the same time giving serious racers an avenue to race at a reasonable cost. For 2016, the newly introduced Amateur category was well received by the racers.

The feature race, the senior open was the most entertaining of the evening. Racers kept exchanging positions throughout the race. Mumbai’s Sunny Bhagnani was shunted twice & fell down the order as Arish Daver from Pune charged from third on the grid to win the race & win a free drive in the Pro Category at the next event. Aman Bhui had a tough battle but managed to finish second, ahead of Rishabh Rathi from Navi Mumbai.

Shaurya Kapani from Jamnabai Narsee School, Mumbai overcame a spin in race 2 to win the overall cadet title. Ranvir Singh from Kalyani School Pune was the youngest participant at just 7 years of age, came second, while Aryan Vasishta of Lotus Valley International School, Noida was third.

The Senior Amateur category saw Aman Bhui from Mumbai win his semifinal & go on to comfortably win the final. Kiran Pardeshi also from Mumbai did well to climb from behind in the semifinals to finish second in the finals ahead of Rashad Khan from Pune.

Pune racers Alan D’Cruz, Zubin Chinoy & Byram Godrej finished top three and dominated both the Senior Plus & Master categories. Although, in the master category Zubin managed to overtake Alan for the win.

The Corporate category turned out to be a battle of the airlines, with Jatin Vora of Jet Airways winning ahead of the Indigo Airlines duo of Tukshad & Arish Daver. The women’s category, won by Aishwarya Dhumal ahead of Pooja Shah & Franziska Prax.

“This time we had a lot more first-time racers come in. It is definitely encouraging for the sport. The interest levels are really high & with a complete fleet of new karts, this is the best way for anyone to start with a career in racing. We hope for a lot more new racers in our next edition” said Rayomand Banajee, co-promoter of the IndiKarting events.
