Podium finish for Armaan Ebrahim in Shanghai
Following a win in the previous round in Fuji, Japan, Indian driver Armaan Ebrahim has finished third in Race One of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia in Shanghai on Sunday.
Ebrahim and his teammate Dilantha Malagamuwa (Sri Lanka) were leading after the first round and continue to do so after the second round, albeit by four points.
It was not the easiest of conditions with a typhoon and the weather conditions changing quite often. However, they qualified fifth and sixth for Race 1 and Race 2 respectively.
It was a wet Race 1 as Ebrahim moved up to the third spot before handing over the car to his teammate, who maintained the position to take the podium.
In Race 2, Ebrahim started sixth but dropped down to the 18th spot after an on-track incident after the first corner. Fighting back, he moved up to the third spot and then Malagamuwa took over. Unfortunately, the Sri Lankan spun, dropped down to fifth and finished in that position.
Ebrahim said: “The conditions were very difficult and it was a gamble to get the setup right for the type of track conditions. Starting fifth and passing the cars ahead was difficult, thanks to the water spray. The car was aquaplaning quite badly and that allowed the leader to get away.
“Given the situation, I think a third place is a good result and we earned vital points to try and keep our lead in the Championship.
“It was unfortunate in Race 2 as I dropped to last after the first corner after getting hit from behind. Nevertheless, it was extremely satisfying to pass 15 cars after that and get up to third place. In tough conditions, it was unlucky that Dilantha spun and that cost us two places.
“To sum it up, it was a difficult weekend. But we ended up on top taking a well-earned podium and vital championship points before the third round in Malaysia, which will host a street race,” he added.
