Indian Government adds FMSCI in the National Sports Federations list

The Indian Government has added FMSCI in the National Sports Federations list after a gap of 4years. Though still the FMSCI will not get any financial support from the government, it will be ruled under the guidelines of the sports ministry and recognized by the ministry as a National Sporting body which will be beneficial in organizing various National level championships and International events.

The FMSCI council worked hard for the past 6months to get re–listed in the Indian Governments National Sports Federations list and finally got an approval from the Govertment 3weeks ago.

All said there is no guarantee on the return of the Formula 1 Indian Grand Prix after this listing as the issue is entirely between Formula One Management and the local promoter Jay Pee Sports India.

The FMSCI was taken off the NSF list earlier in 2011 surrounding the issues related to the inaugural Formula 1 Indian Grand Prix held in Noida but remained an affiliated member till now.

Now FMSCI have to comply fully to the ministry´s guidelines including the one on age and tenure limits of office bearers. All amendments needed to comply with ministry guidelines.

According to Akbar Ebrahim (FMSCI council member) this listing will be useful in promoting motor sport in schools and for the students entering the sport, getting clearances from the goverment for holding National championships for karts, bikes & cars, ease of access to the ministry in getting subsidy or equipment import for the sport and also duty exemption is some case.

Akbar also states the lack of financial support by the Government will be not be a big issue as the sport has been growing independently over the years and this listing will work out positively in many other ways.

Lets hope things work better for the motorsport fraternity and the fans post this NSF listing.
