Luckless weekend for Armaan Ebrahim
Magny–Cours (France), May 16: Armaan Ebrahim had a disappointing weekend in the Formula 2 races here, finishing 12th in the first race and getting shunted at the first corner in the second.
The 21–year old from Chennai, sponsored by JK Tyre, Amaron, Cornerstone Sports & Entertainment Pvt Ltd and Trimex, was on pace going into the weekend, but nothing went to plan.
On Saturday, late in the first qualifying session, Armaan had a third place in his sights when he spun in the wet and it cost him time as he eventually qualified 17th. In the race that followed, Armaan made seven places to 10th but eventually came in 12th.
Armaan, who had finished among points in the second round at Silverstone last month, qualified 15th for Sunday's second race, but was taken out going into the first corner. The impact launched his car into the air and landed in the gravel trap.
"I would like to forget this weekend if I could. In Qualifying 1, there were some handling issues and also I spun. In the first race, I made places to move into 10th, but lost two positions under braking and I held on to my 12th position.
"In Qualifying 2 on Sunday, I thought I looked good for the race though I was struggling at the two high speed corners, and qualified 15th, but I got hit at the first hairpin corner and that was it for me," said an obviously disappointed Armaan.
The Formula 2 series takes a break with the next two rounds scheduled for June 24–26 at the famous Spa–Francorchamps circuit in Belgium.
